Renewable sources of energy

In the 21st century, one of the biggest problems is the increased use of energy and the ever shrinking supply of fossil fuels. A deficit of fossil fuels has prompted research on the use of renewable sources of energy and resulted in the development of new technological processes for acquiring energy. One of the most efficient energy sources is biogas, which can be sourced from green plants or organic matter waste. Biogas has a very positive influence on the environment, as the burning of biogas produces less CO2 than the plants, from which biogas is sourced, utilise for photosynthesis.

The history of the production of biogas around the world

• B.C. - Marco Polo mentions the use of the first so called fermenting machines in antique Chinese literature;
• 1776 - Alessandro Volta concludes that a direct correlation exists between decomposed organic substances and the amount of biogas produced;
• In the 1930s – the development of microbiology leads up to the research conducted by Buswell, who performs research with colleagues. He identifies anaerobic bacteria and the conditions for the production of methane;
• 1937 – a few German municipalities (e.g. Munich) utilise biogas as the fuel for their fleet of vehicles;
• 1972 – due to the crisis in the petrol industry, the construction of biogas production facilities becomes interesting again;
• 1992 – in Germany there are around 100 biogas plants;
• Up until 2010 - due to favourable conditions, the number of biogas plants increases to more than 6,000, with a combined capacity of over 2,000 MW.
  

About the Company

Company ECOS d. o. o. was founded in 2002. From the very beginning of operations, we have been active in the areas of environmental protection and energy in the renewable source segment of energy - biogas, as well as sludge processing in public utility treatment plants and industrial objects.

We began to develop our biogas technology in 2003. After four years of development and coordination between various stakeholders, we decided to invest in the construction of a biogas power plant in Lendava in 2007, one which has been operating successfully from year 2008 on.

Our wealth of experience, based on development and innovations in the area of biogas production, enables us to offer biogas technology to potential investors as well.
